back by popular demand.

not really, it's just that I had a thoroughly distressing moment today...the kind of random moment that only the xanga community could appreciate.

I'm so sickened with myself that I think I might vomit.

My horribly distressing moment went something like this... I was walking on campus today and saw a girl with ashes on her forehead...not just any ahses, ash-wednesday ashes.  I thought, 'Please just let her be a weird freak with dirt on her face.'  But she wasn't.  And if today is ash wednesday that means yesterday was..yeah...Mardi Gras.

I didn't even know.

I'm going to go cry now.

Hanks family totem pole.

What do you do on your family vacations?

Joy, Garrett and I walked out of this sushi restaurant tonight and this homeless man started talking to Joy...something about 'don't carry that bag so lightly' and 'you're the giver of life.'

'what?'  I had one of those 'is there something spiritual going on here?' kind of moments.  And it was all the more eerie because we were in an alley which looked like the Berlin wall--grafiti and barbed wire--with the LA skyline in the background.

The kicker is that afterwards Joy and I both thought that he looked and sounded just like Kevin Blue.  So the whole way home I was thinking, was Kevin Blue dressed as a homeless man standing outside of a sushi restaurant tonight?

yep, that's my life.

My mom has spent years trying to convince us that we can't just pick the things that we like out of the trail mix.  Well, BIG NEWS--we've finally convinced her that it's ok because we each like different things.  truly we are each being used in our uniqueness to contribute to the family mission.  only thing is...we need someone to eat the peanuts (not a hanks family favorite apparently).  any takers?  come on...you could be an honorary member of the hanks family!

Well, tomorrow I head back to Los Angeles, which always feels the same--glad to be returning to friends, sad to be leaving family.  If there are two things I miss most when I leave home it's this:  laughter and hugs.  Really, I think I laugh more (and often laugh til I cry)  and get more hugs when I'm at home.  Maybe that's just the nature of family.  So I will be awarding honorary family points to anyone who makes me laugh til I cry or to anyone who gives enough hugs to out-hug my mom.

p.s. this is not to say that all my family does is laugh and hug all the time.  as a matter of fact I woke up this morning at 6am to the melodious sounds of my dad and brother yelling at each other at the top of their lungs and slamming doors.  but...those are obviously not the things i miss so you do not get points for yelling at me and slamming doors in my face.

p.p.s.  while we're on the topic of being mean, i may as well say that you may get points for making fun of me and saying what would normally be considered really mean things to me, as this sometimes makes me feel right at home.  (remember, three brothers).  this is a risky route to take to get your points though so you should ask Justin Chang for advice on how to do this appropriately.  justin has a knack for insulting in a loving way and being inoffensively offensive.

good luck and happy point-earning!

Thanks for helping me celebrate my graduation everyone.  My family had a lot of fun.  But what does it say that so many of you thought I was dropped on my head as a child?  (that was not the correct answer by the way).  do I act like I was dropped on my head?  Are you saying I'm stupid or something?  thanks for the vote of confidence.

Today we didn't do too much but a few of my aunts came over in the evening.  We all played mah-jong and then we all cajun danced.  I don't know which activity was funnier,  my siblings couldn't remember the word 'pong' for the life of them and my aunts kept getting dizzy from all the spinning.  The evening ended with the mah-jong tiles stacked in a pyramid (the kids decided building with them was more fun than playing the game) and my aunts stumbling out the door giggling (apparently cajun dancing has the same effect on them as alcohol).  all in all, it was a fun evening
